Wildflower Walks, St. Francois State Park
And Earth Day at Farmington Engler Park

Ron Mullikin was at his best this spring when he conducted wildflower walks at St. Francois State Park on Saturday, April 18th, and on our Earth Day a week later at Engler City Park in Farmington.
The Mooners' Hollow affair started with a light rain, which undoubtedly discouraged a number of otherwise hardy flower huggers.  But after a few remarks about wildflowers from the bed of his pickup truck, Ron observed that the rain had stopped.
Eleven enthusiasts followed Ron and his cohort Jenny Gunn as they walked up the vallley observing the various types of early wildflowers.  And Renee Jean of the Daily Journal was present with words about Grow Native planting and with handy application blanks.
Some of the flowers observed included Celandine Poppy Bellwort, White Bloodroot, Hepatica, Purple Sweet William and Rose Verbena.
Ron got to "do his thing" twice at Earth Day when hikes were scheduled at 10 a.m. and also at 2 p.m.

President Gary Announces Nominations

At the May 21st meeting of East Ozarks Audubon, President Gary Chastain announced the selections of the Nominating Committee for officers and directors that will be elected for the 2009-10 year.
Since Gary himself will be serving the second year of a two-year term, his position was not subject to review.
Nominated for a second year was vice-president Jenny Gunn.  Since her retirement a year ago from her biology chair at Mineral Area College, Jenny has been very active in Chapter affairs.  Jenny will be eligible to move up to the presidency in the 2010 to 2012 term.
Also nominated for a second year was secretary Joyce Lewis.  She is eligible to be re-elected to her position as long as she wants it.  The secretary and treasurer are allowed to succeed themselves endlessly according to amendments of the Chapter By-laws.
John Crouch was also nominated to continue in his position as treasurer of the Chapter.  John is a C.P.A. in Farmington.  He delegates his work as treasurer to a trusted employee, Amber Cook.  Amber prepares a monthly treasurer's report and submits it by e-mail to Chapter officers.
Ron Mullikin was named to serve on the Board of Directors replacing Mary Woodney who retires after serving four years.  Ron served on the very first board of directors beginning in October of 1980.  He is retired from his position of naturalist at St. Francois State Park.
Nicole McKenzie was named to serve her third year on the board.  She lives with her family in rural Potosi.  Niles Woodney also begins his third year on the board.
Ruth Denton and her daughter Diane Hitson were nominated to begin their second year on the board.
The Chapter election will take place at the July meeting and the officers officially begin their term in September.
